Dr. Charles H. Mayo was a well-known
and well respected medical authority in the 1900s
and one of the founders of the distinguished Mayo
clinic. Interestingly, he saw back then what medicine
has overlooked for so long. He observed the clinical
association between bad teeth and bad health, and
the importance of good teeth good health. In 1934,
Dr. Mayo said, "It is the little things--infected
teeth and tonsils, for instance-that cause most of
our serious ailments." He also reportedly said,
"A healthy mouth can add 10 years to your life."
